MERENGUE
It is said that merengue began around the early 1900's in the Dominican Republic. Merengue is a fast music style filled with layers of percussion and horns. Couples often dance in a closed position with knees slightly bent to allow for grinding hips, while complex sets of encirclements are performed with the arms and body. A few of the famous artists are Juan Luis Guerra, Alex Bueno, Joseph Fonseca, Elvis Crespo, and Johnny Ventura.
